Floor Care & Maintenance

This page covers basic care. For more information specifically tailored to you floor or countertop covering, read the materials that came with your materials. You may also wish to check the web sites for your manufacturer.

General Tips: All floors, tub surrounds, and countertops benefit from regular cleaning, including dust mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, surface cleaning or disinfecting.

Bamboo As a newer floor covering, it looks great--but only for a very short period of time. It is not like a standard hardwood floor: it scratches and dents easily. We do not recommend using this in active areas, such as kitchens or bathrooms. If you like the look and have to have it, consider using it only in a spare bedroom or other little used space.

Granite, Slate, Marble, and other Natural Stone Dust mop frequently using a clean non-treated dry dust mop. Abrasives, such as sand, dirt and grit to do the most damage to these surfaces. Use mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance to minimize tracking in these floor-harming substances. Remember to use a non-slip mat betweeen the floor and the mat or rug. Clean stone floors with a few drops of stone cleaner and warm water, using a clean rag mop on floors and a soft cloth for countertops. Rinse completely with plain water and dry with a soft, clean cloth. Change your rinse water often.

Hardwood and Hardwood Laminates These floors are easy to care for. Dust mop frequently. Periodically use a damp (not soggy) mop. Some of the newer "wet mops" are quick and easy.

Porcelain This is the flooring choice these days. It is a durable floor covering with color all the way through the tile. It is strong, slip-resistant, stain and bacteria retardant, easy to clean, and does not need to be sealed. In-floor radiant heat is easily installed under a porcelain floor. Dust mop frequently and damp mop occasionally.

Sealing Grout needs to be periodically resealed for maintain appearance, to reduce damage, and to minimize mildew and surface build-up. Most surfaces should be sealed at least once a year, depending on use. We seal your grout at the time of installation, and we can clean and re-seal for you.

Tile Glazed tile needs routine cleaning with an all-purpose, non-oil, non-ammonia based cleaner. Unglazed tile should be cleaned with a concentrated tile cleaner that has a neutral pH.

Vinyl This easy-care floor takes simple cleaning: sweep or dust mop, then damp mop regularly.

I noticed that some of the tiles in my bathroom walls were loose and the grout was coming off. I am a very busy so kept on postponing calling someone to fix it. One day I got home and the loose tiles were lying broken on the floor. Can you imagine my frustration? I rang my brother in panic and he gave me Tile Cleaners' contact details. I rang them straight away. The guys told me I needed a tiler and professional regrouting work done so I thought it would take ages to fix my problem. However they organized the work very well. I had my tiles fixed on Friday night the same week and the entire bathroom regrouted on Saturday. Thank you some much for your quick help; it was such a relief.
